The Saral Design Story
Saral Designs was started by two IIT graduates who wanted to bring a change in the menstrual hygiene industry. They identified the need for high-speed compact sanitary pad making machines for low-income communities. Before Saral, there were either multinational centralized manufacturing units where the cost of setting up the machine was high and the cost of the pad increases by the time it reaches the consumer or there were low-cost manual pad making machines where due to low production capacity the unit economics per pad made the production units financially unsustainable and lack of automation and processes made the quality poor and inconsistent.
This led to the invention of Swachh machines which were India’s first automatic and compact machines which mid-speed production ideally suited for developing countries for decentralized production. With a strong focus on R&D, Saral Designs team has developed a range of Swacch machines that can produce multiple hygiene products including sanitary pads, pantiliners, maternity pads, 3ply masks, period pain patches, underpads etc. with varying production capacities – manual, semi-automatic and high-speed machines
The state of menstrual hygiene in India is critical and there is an urgent need to address it.
